Intent

At Jubilee Wood, our intent in Physical Education is to provide a high-quality, inclusive PE curriculum that inspires all pupils to enjoy being physically active and develop a lifelong love of sport and movement. We aim to ensure that all children develop the fundamental movement skills, physical competence, confidence and teamwork needed to participate successfully in a wide range of physical activities.

Through PE, we seek to promote physical health, mental wellbeing and positive attitudes towards challenge and perseverance. We strive to give pupils opportunities to experience success, develop resilience and understand the importance of fair play, respect and cooperation. We also aim to identify and nurture sporting talent while ensuring that every child, regardless of ability, feels valued and motivated to participate.

Implementation

PE at Jubilee Wood is delivered through the PE Hub scheme, which provides a progressive, well-structured curriculum aligned with the National Curriculum. Lessons are carefully sequenced to build skills, knowledge and understanding over time, ensuring clear progression across year groups.

Pupils receive regular, high-quality PE lessons that focus on developing fundamental skills, game understanding, fitness and tactical awareness. Teachers use the PE Hub resources to deliver engaging lessons with clear learning objectives, adapted activities and opportunities for assessment. Lessons place an emphasis on active participation, skill repetition, teamwork and positive attitudes to physical activity.

In addition to curriculum PE, pupils are given regular opportunities to apply their skills in competitive and non-competitive contexts through a wide range of sporting events and competitions throughout the year. These experiences allow children to represent the school, work collaboratively with others and develop confidence in real-life sporting situations. Extra-curricular clubs further enhance provision and encourage broader participation in physical activity.

Impact

Through our PE curriculum, we hope that pupils leave Jubilee Wood as confident, physically literate individuals who enjoy being active and understand the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. We aim for children to develop strong fundamental skills, positive attitudes towards physical challenge and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

The impact of PE will be measured through:

  • Ongoing teacher assessment of skills, participation and progress within PE lessons
  • Pupil voice, reflecting enjoyment, confidence and attitudes towards physical activity
  • Participation levels in school sport, competitions and extra-curricular activities
  • Improved physical competence, resilience and teamwork over time

Ultimately, we aim for PE to have a lasting impact by equipping pupils with the skills, confidence and motivation needed to remain physically active and engaged in sport beyond their time at Jubilee Wood.
